It was founded by Ichizo Fukushima in 1884 (Meiji 17).
In 1925, after the Great Kanto Earthquake, Masakichi Odaka took over the business, and it has been operated by the Odaka family for four generations.
The two-story wooden building miraculously survived the air raids and still remains as it is today,
In 2001, it was selected as a historical building by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
